This year has been… well it’s been a year. That being said, this year taught me a lot about myself and the world around me, and I wanted to share 21 different lessons I learned in year 2021.
- Not everyone is meant to be in your life forever
- Pain is temporary, but it’s still okay to acknowledge when something hurts
- Vulnerability is not a weakness
- People will always reveal their true colors
- The universe has a plan that we might not understand and we have to accept that and enjoy the ride
- You should never be afraid to ask questions
- You have to be okay with embarrassing yourself sometimes
- People are rarely going to live up to your expectations
- It’s okay to demand the respect you deserve
- Being alone is not only okay, but it can help you grow tremendously
- Peaking in college is just as bad as peaking in high school
- No one is going to make you happy but you
- If you’re scared to do things because your friends might judge you, you might need better friends
- Keep your expectations low and let yourself be pleasantly surprised
- You shouldn’t force yourself to do things that make you unhappy just because it’s what you think you’re supposed to do
- You can’t do everything on your own and that’s okay
- You can’t convince people to care about you
- Clothes aren’t meant to fit you. You are not meant to fit clothes.
- There’s ways to dress cute without compromising comfort and causing sensory overload
- My parents were right; we have food at home
- The world was not built for neurodivergent brains and life gets easier when you acknowledge that and start finding ways to make adjustments
Some of these things may seem simple, but they’re the things that most stuck out to me when I reflected on this year as a whole.
